Imagine being on a path to become a doctor...
You go to medical school, your parents are happy, and you think you've found the right career (and spent a lot of time and money to get there).
Then you wake up one day and realize it's not quite what you thought it was.
You start to explore your options and decide to go back to school.
You take your knowledge as a medical doctor and apply it to MBA and MPH degrees.
This is the story of my podcast guest, Neil P. Patel.
Neil now works as a Senior Program Manager at Episource, a healthcare adjacent company where he uses his two advanced degrees and medical background every day. It's hard to think that something you imagine from a young age would turn out different, but that's what happens in our careers. We have this dream and it's not quite what we thought. Sometimes we're afraid to make the change, but the change is exactly what we need to set us free.
Neil gives A LOT of tips that worked well for him in his career advancement, as well as shares about his graduate school experience. Let me tell you, Neil did it right in graduate school. About Neil:
Neil Patel opens the line of communication between internal and external partners to push initiatives forward. With over 16 years in both clinical and non-clinical sectors, Neil has experience with team building, professional development, networking, and collaboration. Neil has managed projects at healthcare companies such as IEHP, Prime, Kaiser Permanente and Episource where he is a Senior Program Manager for the strategic operations team.
While at CGU, Neil attended Drucker for his MBA in Strategy as well as SCGH for his MPH in Leadership. He served as a VP on both student associations as well as the secretary for the GSC. Neil completed a fellowship with the Randall Lewis Health Policy and received a C.V. Starr Scholarship and Hillcrest Transdisciplinary Award.
In his free time, Neil enjoys a good Netflix binge, eating out and Instagramming new restaurants as well as finding and sending memes.
