I'm excited to share my tips and advice for people graduating this year. For anyone new here, I spent 8 years working in career development at universities before starting my own business. I have worked with every major and every type of degree. From freshmen who have no idea what they want to major in to seniors who have no idea what job they want to grad students, alumni, and more.

I'm going to share with you, not only the most common advice I gave to those graduating but also what I wish someone would have told me. Here's what this episode covers:

  • The myth of the "dream" job.
  • Your first job after you graduate won't be forever.
  • Graduate school isn't the answer if you can't find a job.
  • Value yourself and your experience!
  • Use LinkedIn to its fullest!
  • A special message to first-generation graduates.
  • A special reminder to students whose parents are little too controlling about their career.

A little bit about Julia:

I started this journey in a counseling-focused master of science program where my then passion was working with college students. I spent 8 years working in higher education in various roles within university career offices helping everyone from freshmen to doctoral students to mid-career alumni to encore career alumni figure out their path in their current season of life. I spent my time coaching and creating career programs and I'm using that experience to create a career management and advancement program that is everything you need to get where you want to go.

I found my niche and passion working with new and mid-career managers who have lost their way, are in toxic environments, or who are so high-achieving they don't know where they fit in the working world. I support and respect the need for people to have a 9-5 job and I help you find your place and path in your career journey.

I'm also certified and educationally eligible to administer and interpret multiple personality and interest assessments, which I use in my coaching program.

It's important to note that I didn't wake up one day and decide to do this work. I'm highly trained in coaching and counseling, have been part of multiple career-related professional associations and I LOVE this work.

I look forward to connecting with you and helping you find success in you career, whatever that looks like for you.
