This episode's Recruiter's Perspective guest has a special place in my heart because she transitioned her career from admissions in higher education to Human Resources at a manufacturing and e-commerce organization.

Lauren Records is a Human Resources Coordinator for Nielsen-Kellerman, an award-winning designer and manufacturer of weather stations, ballistics and weather instruments, and sports performance products. Lauren's interview focuses on her experience and transition into a new functional area and industry while also sharing the role recruiting plays in her multi-faceted position.

Not all recruiters do recruiting full-time in their role and they don't all have the title of recruiter or talent acquisition professional. This episode was recorded in late 2021, so Lauren has now been in her position for about a year, but even as she made a recent shift to HR, she was able provide perspective on the job search process as someone who reviews resumes and interviews candidates regularly, along with her own journey.

Lauren represents many professionals who want to change, but are afraid to take the leap. I hope Lauren's story and tips inspire you to make the necessary decisions in your career.

I appreciate Lauren's candidness around the great registration and smaller organizations. One challenge that smaller organizations have is room for growth. In this case, someone might leave because they want a new experience and the current company simply doesn't have what they want or need. There are no hard feelings and the employee can move on to something more with the support of the current organization.

Lauren's company is in a unique position because while their corporate positions are more limited, their hourly manufacturing and warehouse positions are always open for applications and constantly recruiting.

Many organizations are facing this juxtaposition within employee hiring and retention that makes it hard to enact policies and strategies across the company.

Lauren shares her tips and strategies specifically for those looking for more entry level positions OR looking to transition industries through her own experience.

About Lauren:

Hi all, I’m Lauren! I am currently an HR Coordinator at an American-made manufacturing company in southeastern PA that specializes in sports, weather, and ballistics equipment. My career background includes a variety of retail, service, and financial industry jobs. I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wilmington University and a master’s degree in Higher Education Counseling/Student Affairs. My most recent position was working at a university handling recruitment for over 50 undergraduate and graduate programs and corporate partnerships. This position really sparked my interest in Human Resources and channeling my recruitment and networking skills for a company. My time in HR has been filled with recruiting for entry-level through to senior management jobs, building a company-wide orientation program, onboarding, benefits, employee events, performance reviews, and the occasional terminations. What I love most about my job is the ability to build relationships with employees from applicants through their career with the company- it truly is a great experience!
