Enter Nick Giannotti, the Lead Technical Recruiter for Slack, a company communication hub used in many companies across the world. Nick's tenure and experience in recruiting across multiple industries and organizations give him a unique perspective to share tips that transcend functional areas or industries. He shares his perspective from working with candidates on the agency side, as well as how it's similar and different as an internal recruiter for a single organization.

One of my favorite tips, and likely a clip you'll see on my social channels, was Nick's advice on networking through messaging. He shares his experience of receiving messages thinking he works for a different company or messages with little to no information to help him figure out what the candidate wants or needs. Nick provides strategic tips on how to message recruiters effectively in order to get a response.

We also spend time discussing certifications. For those who are looking to transition into tech from another functional area and you're getting a certification - you need to listen to what Nick has to say. The short version - a certification doesn't guarantee a job. You still need experience and you might start at a more entry-level position until you gain the necessary experience for something with a higher salary and title.

What I love about my conversation with Nick, aside from all the amazing advice and applicable strategies, is his encouragement. He is a positive person who wants what's best for you as a candidate and for the organization. If the job search process is getting you down, Nick's encouragement will help pick you back up to keep going!

About Nick:
Nicholas is a Lead Technical Recruiter with 7+ years of experience including internal and external recruitment. He specializes in Software, Data, DevOps, Security, and Infrastructure recruitment. In addition, he is currently pursuing his master's degree in Human Resources Development at Villanova University. 

Nicholas has built out the interview process from the ground up and has been part of many transformation projects in his career including: building an internal mobility program, helping adapt a pipeline recruitment program, and helping streamline and improve the interview process. 

Nicholas currently works as a Lead Technical Recruiter at Slack, where they're on a mission to make working life simpler, more pleasant and more productive—for everyone. Nicholas partners closely with Engineering leadership to deeply understand their teams and hiring needs while making hiring recommendations, support events, and build strategy to hire amazing people at Slack.
